Prayer ListIt is our policy not to post addresses on the web. For address information, you can contact Bill Bryan by email blb29@shawneelink.net August 16, 2008 1.) Dan Verble is suffering with a swollen leg. It is possibly phlebitis since he has had this ailment before. The swelling is presently going down at night but if it persists they will see a doctor about it soon. They request your prayers in this matter. 2.) Dan and Helen Verble’s son-in-law, Jay Bischof, was involved in a serious automobile accident in the St. Louis area where he lives. He is known to have a fractured vertebra and scratches and bruises. He was kept at the hospital for observation. They also request prayer for him. 3.) May Estes recently had a double mastectomy and is suffering a considerable amount of pain. She would appreciate your prayers. 4.) Jim (Bo) Barnes died on Saturday, August 2. He was eighty-five years old. His funeral was held at Eminence, MO. August 9, 2008 1.)Update Received: August 7, 2008 From David Smith, elder, St. John’s, NL: Felicia Miller received many, many emails, cards and letters and wanted to express her deep gratitude to everyone who sent them. She has good days and bad days, and now is feeling the good days are winning. On July 25 she had blood clots removed from her lung, making breathing easier. On July 28 her oncologist gave her fantastic news that the three spots on her left lung have shrunk so small they can hardly be seen! She is sure that these positive reports are due to the help from all the prayers offered on her behalf. Felicia’s daughter, two sons and friend, Philip, who introduced her to the church, are always there for her. Her treatments are at times painful and depressing, but with all the prayers and her family by her side, she is finding more and more strength to beat it. She mentioned, "I may get knocked down for a hour or a day but I get up and go on again." Thank you all so much for your prayers and very encouraging messages. 2.) Update Received: August 7, 2008 From Fred Kellers, pastor, Bowling Green, KY; Nashville, TN: Kevin Kenady, who was severely burned on 15 to 20 percent of his body just less than three months ago, is healing fabulously! Considering that he was initially lying in a hospital bed, hooked up to machines that were monitoring his breathing, pulse and oxygen levels, it is truly amazing—he is doing miraculously well! Two weeks ago Kevin was at the pre-teen Camp Tomahawk (outside of Nashville, TN) helping with field activities with the kids, going on three-hour survival classes, and walking all over the camp. He spent four days out of town this past week going to meetings with colleagues from work. He is back and "hitting it hard!" Kevin is in no pain, his wounds are healing well, his scars are faint, his strength is returning, he has full range of motion, and those who know of his injuries cannot believe their eyes when they see him. He and his wife, Rachel, are tremendously thankful for the miraculous healing that has taken place, and want to thank all of the brethren for their prayers, cards and e-mails. 3.) Date Received: August 8, 2008 From Ken Giese, pastor, Sacramento, CA; Reno, NV: Your prayers are requested for Don Clark, a member in the Sacramento area who is currently hospitalized due to complications with a foot wound that is not healing. He is facing possible surgery on his foot. In addition to these diabetic issues, Don suffers from leukemia. After discussions with his doctor, Don has decided to forego further treatment of his leukemia due to its ineffectiveness as well as the treatment’s adverse effect upon the healing of his foot. Don, his wife, Eileen, and their entire family would appreciate your prayers for Don’s complete healing. August 2, 2008 1.) Update Received: July 28, 2008 From: Jim Tuck, pastor, Oakland/San Jose/Santa Rosa, CA: Little 4-year-old David McNally is still experiencing side effects related to the bone marrow transplant he received in August 2006. He has chronic graft-vs.-host disease from the unrelated donor cells attacking his skin. He will be on medications for years. He is taking many immunosuppressants to keep the rash under control. The steroids are causing severe side effects like high blood pressure and lack of growth. The McNally family would appreciate your prayers for a quick and complete healing. 2.) Catherine Cole of the Huntsville, AL congregation is requesting your prayers for her upcoming heart surgery. She is to have an aortic valve replaced next Monday morning the fourth. This is a pretty serious situation. Be sure to remember her in your prayers. July 26, 2008 1.) Update Received: July 22, 2008 From Roger West, pastor, Bentonville, Fort Smith, Mena, AR: The first prayer request for Rachel Petty had some inaccuracies, and we also wanted to provide an update on her condition. Rachel reports that she has Follicular Small B Cell Lymphoma, Grade 3, Stage 4; Grade 3 being the highest and Stage 4 being the highest. The cancer was discovered with a surgical biopsy. The lymphoma is not in the brain as previously stated. It is in lumps in Rachel's head, neck, armpits, and abdomen. She began R-CHOP chemotherapy on Monday, July 7, 2008. The oncologist stated that this is highly curable, but the treatment is going to be really tough. Side effects of her treatment will most likely be loss of hair, loss of weight, lots of vomiting and queasiness. She has experienced flu-like symptoms following the chemo with achiness and loss of energy. Rachel will also have a shot during the week that she has chemo to regenerate white blood cells. She has already experienced the side effects of this shot this past week, including pain in the skull, sternum and pelvis, as well as difficulty walking. The biggest concern for the duration of the treatment is staying infection free. The treatment will compromise her immune system, allowing infections which can be very serious. Rachel's oncologist was very encouraged by her response to the treatment so far. Most of the lumps have shrunk significantly in size. If all goes as planned, she will start her second round of chemo July 28th. Rachel Petty 2.) Date Received: July 22, 2008 From Edmond Macaraeg, pastor, Mindanao congregations, Philippines: Prayers are requested for Mr. Jaime Dagani, one of our church leaders helping in the northern Mindanao region. For many years now, he has been afflicted with diabetes. As a result, his kidneys have also been affected such that they are now only about 10% functional. Doctors have already fitted an attachment for an expected need for dialysis. Thanks for your prayers. Jaime Dagani 3.) Date Received: July 24, 2008 From Roc Corbett, elder, Kalispell, MT: John Kloeckl, of the Kalispell, Montana, congregation, requests your prayers. He was recently diagnosed with a form of lymphoma and will begin treatments this week. John is 80, strong of faith, and not in much pain up to this point. He and the congregation here wish to thank you in advance for joining us in prayer for his healing, according to God’s will. July 19, 2008 1.) I am happy to report that there are no new prayer requests for this week. BB July 12, 2008 1.) Update Received: July 11, 2008 From Lyle Welty, pastor, Cincinnati East, OH: Frances Campbell and her family want to thank all of you for your cards and prayers. They have been very encouraging during her battle with cancer. The cancer has spread from her lung to her brain, adrenal glands and lymph nodes. The radiation treatments she received to stop the growth in her brain resulted in greatly speeding up the dementia process. They have decided, therefore, to discontinue any further treatments. God has been merciful in the fact that she has experienced no pain throughout the process. Your continued prayers on her behalf for His mercy and healing, if that is His Will, would be greatly appreciated. 2.) Date Received: July 9, 2008 From Saul Langarica, pastor, Argentina/Bolivia/Brazil/Chile/Uruguay: Your prayers are requested for Giovanna Machicao, a member in Bolivia, who was recently informed by doctors that she has Multiple Sclerosis. Other doctors will be giving a second opinion. Please pray for God’s intervention, and for His help in dealing with the situation. 3.) Update Received: July 9, 2008 From Paul Kieffer, regional pastor, German speaking areas: Martin Fekete’s condition continues to improve following his bypass surgery. He was allowed to go home last Thursday, and he will begin a three-week rehabilitation therapy at a special clinic on July 15. The doctors who treated him in Heidelberg were surprised how quickly his recovery has gone overall. One doctor remarked that Martin’s positive attitude has been a major factor in his recovery. Martin and his wife, Denise, want to thank everyone for all the encouragement they have received. The cards, emails and even phone calls have reassured them that they are not alone in this trial. Martin’s sister (she is not a member) remarked positively on the concern that our brethren have shown. 4.) Update Received: July 9, 2008 From Gary McConnaughey, pastor, Cadillac/Grand Rapids/Kalamazoo, MI: Charles (Chuck) Bailey has been bedridden for the last three or four months. Hospice care has helped his wife, Sharon, in caring for Chuck’s needs. He has steadily grown weaker and cannot get out of bed. He has refused all medications for his heart and pain from his stroke three years ago. The one positive event has been that the constant pain he has suffered has now ceased; the medical people say it is probably because the nerve has died that was causing all the pain. Mrs. Bailey is asking for prayers that God’s will be done. They appreciate all the cards, prayers, and calls they have received. 5.) Update Received: July 7, 2008 From Steve Moody, pastor, Jackson/Memphis, TN; Little Rock/Sedgwick, AR: Gene Bremer, a long-time faithful deacon in the Jackson, Tennessee, congregation, died this past Sabbath morning at 7:32 a.m. He had been battling bone cancer. Gratefully he was not suffering. His wife, Diane, and all the family deeply appreciate all the outpouring of love and support that they have received through the time of Gene’s illness. They know he is at peace and will see him in the resurrection. July 5, 2008 1.) Date Received: July 3, 2008 From Roger West, pastor, Bentonville/Fort Smith/Mena, AR: Prayers are requested for Rachel Petty, 38, of the Bentonville, Arkansas, congregation, who was recently diagnosed with Lymphoma in her brain, neck, chest and diaphragm. Biopsy results indicate that some of the cancer is at stage 2, some at stage 3, and some at stage 4. Rachel and her husband, Corwin, have two young children, Colton is 8, and Emma Rae is 3. Prayers are requested for God’s intervention, healing and guidance of the doctors in this very serious situation. 2.) SATURDAY, JULY 05, 2008 09:21 AM, CDT From Gene Bremer’s journal on CaringBridge.com It is my sad responsiblity to share with you that our father has passed. Dad died in bed with Dianne, Garrett, Corina and myself (Theressa) at his side. We have been here next to him praying with him and crying with him. We have shared laughter and memories. We grieve the loss of our father but rejoice in his assured resurrection. Thank you so much for you prayers for all of us. We were deeply blessed by the hand of Lord bringing us all together at this time. We will communicate via this website the arrangements that will be made. But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has come the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. I Corinthians 15:20-22 SATURDAY, JULY 05, 2008 11:18 PM, CDT Dad will have a couple of services. A Memorial Service will be held in Henderson, Tennessee at Leon Johnson Funeral Home on Highway 100 on Sunday, July 6th from 2-5pm. Visitation and Funeral Services will be held in Metropolis, IL at Aikins-Farmers Funeral Home at 70 Jon, Metropolis, Il 62960. Phone 618-524-2156. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5pm to 8pm and the funeral services will held on Wednesday at 11am. Flowers can be sent to the funeral home or monetary donations to help with funeral costs can be donated at http://thebremers.com/gene/index.html We pondered today the difficulty of adequately speaking to the depths of our appreciation for your support. We will trust that gratitude in the name of our Lord, Jesus, will suffice. Thank you. Dianne, Garrett, Theressa and Corina June 28, 2008 1.) Update Received: June 23, 2008,/ From Edmond Macaraeg, pastor, Mindanao congregations, Philippines Mrs. Cynthia Acevedo went through a bilateral mastectomy for cancer on both breasts February 28. A follow-up biopsy showed she is now free of cancer cells. Unable to personally respond to over 60 congregations and individuals who sent cards of encouragement, she asked me to relay her deep, sincere thanks and appreciation to all who sent cards and all who prayed for her. Apart from God’s kindness to her, it is a great comfort to her that she has a large, caring family of individuals from all over who have shown love and concern for her. She was so touched by it. 2.) Update Received: June 25, 2008 From Martin Fekete, elder, Germany: During my first visit after the operation, the doctor explained what they had done. Two arteries were totally blocked and by-passes were done to correct the situation. Two smaller arteries were fully blocked as well, but could not be repaired because they are too thin. The doctor felt I should not have any bigger difficulties, if I can cut back a bit and listen to my body carefully. My wife, Denise, and I were very encouraged when I was transferred out of Intensive Care within two days to an Intermediate Care Unit. I was feeling good and was positive until about 6 p.m. that day, when an abnormality in an X-ray appeared. A pocket of air was in between the lungs and ribs. The doctor on duty ordered that a catheter be inserted immediately because if the air was caused by a small tear in the lungs there was danger that the whole lung wing could collapse. We experienced God’s direction and guidance; the doctor on duty was a specialist in heart operations through the rib cage. The additional procedure was performed without any problems and we are sure that God is directing everything for the good. I will be moved on June 25th from the Intermediate Care Unit, due to my speedy recovery, to a different clinic five minutes from Denise’s workplace for the continued convalescence. We want to express thanks to all the brethren for their prayers for my healing and pray that God may return the blessing to the brethren. 3.) Update Received: June 25, 2008 From Mario Seiglie, pastor, Garden Grove, CA: I regret to inform you that Carl Dailey, an elder for 14 years in the Garden Grove congregation, died of a heart attack on June 16. He was able to visit his children in Chicago and upon arriving back to Southern California, he had a heart attack coming home from the airport. The funeral was carried out Monday, June 23, at the Riverside National Cemetery. He will be greatly missed. June 21, 2008 1.) Update Received: June 18, 2008 From Steve Moody, pastor, Jackson/Memphis, TN; Little Rock/Sedgwick, AR: Gene Bremer, our deacon in the Jackson, Tennessee, congregation, has been fighting bone cancer. He has fractured several vertebrae due to the weakening of his bones. He has lost considerable weight (50 pounds). He is also in considerable pain. Though his cancer numbers have been lowering, he had a setback this past week and had to return to the hospital in great pain. He is home now and under in-home nursing care. Please keep Gene and his wife Diane in your prayers. 2.) Update Received: June 18, 2008 From Paul Kieffer, regional pastor, German speaking areas: Martin Fekete’s examination yesterday was not as positive as we had hoped. He was supposed to have two stints placed in the arteries near his heart. However, the doctors who were going to perform the procedure discovered that the affected area was blocked to the extent that no stints could be placed, and two arteries are totally blocked. Under the circumstances, the doctors believe that the only medical solution is a bypass operation. Martin will be consulting with a specialist on June 23rd in Ludwigshafen. At that point a date for surgery will be set. Martin and Denise would like to pass on their appreciation for everyone’s prayers as well as the cards, emails and phone calls. Words cannot express how much this support in such a situation means to them. 3.) Update Received: June 20, 2008 An update was recently received from Martin Fekete’s wife, Denise, that we wanted to pass along. Right now Martin is being prepared for, or undergoing, heart surgery. His regular doctor reviewed the reports from the cardiologist this morning and felt Martin should be admitted immediately. Upon review in the ambulance area it was decided not to wait until Monday, but perform the operation this afternoon (in their time zone). Martin and Denise really appreciate all the thoughts and prayers. 4.) Update Received: June 17, 2008 From Mark Welch, pastor, Tulsa/Oklahoma City/Lawton, OK: Stephen Bowles was released from the hospital last Friday evening. Although his knee was very painful, he enjoyed the Sabbath at home with his family. He was able to spend a nice afternoon barbecuing on Father’s Day with his wife, Syvola, and two of his sons. He also had the opportunity to spend time with his daughter and oldest son earlier last week. Stephen had another heart attack at home Sunday evening. He lost consciousness and never regained it, although he was taken to the ER. He died peacefully as he was being transferred to the Critical Care Unit. Stephen was an example of faith and perseverance and he was a great inspiration to all of us who knew him well. He will certainly be missed, but he fought a good fight and now awaits the resurrection to eternal life in God’s Kingdom. Thank you for your prayers for Stephen and please continue to pray that God will strengthen and comfort Syvola and the entire Bowles family. 5.) Date Received: June 17, 2008 From David Smith, elder, St. John’s, NL: Felicia Miller has a history of cancer dating back to 1989 when she was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer. She was given chemotherapy at the time and later was proclaimed cancer free. Two years ago she was diagnosed with cancer of the colon and underwent an operation. Last September she was diagnosed with cancer of the liver and given six months to live. The cancer is now in her lymph and is causing her a lot of back pain. Felicia is a new attendee in St. John’s. She has been anointed, and is requesting prayers for God’s intervention again in her life.June 14, 2008 1.) Update Received: June 11, 2008 From Andy Burnett, pastor, New Orleans, LA; Laurel, MS: After Mike Anderson underwent surgery to remove several brain tumors in November, 2007, his condition was diagnosed as inoperable. Subsequently, he has undergone monthly chemotherapy treatments to slow the cancer. The tumors have returned and are affecting his sight and memory. Presently, surgeons at the Preston Robert Tish Brain Tumor Center at Duke University are reviewing Mike’s pathology slides to determine if he is a candidate for treatment at their facility. If accepted, he will begin treatment there on June 23rd. Mike, his wife, Beth, and their son, Aaron, are members of the Laurel, Mississippi, congregation. They remain hopeful and are doing their part while being ever mindful that Mike’s life is in God’s hands. Their positive example continues to be a source of strength for all of us in the congregations here. They’ve deeply appreciated the prayers and cards from the brethren worldwide and solicit your ongoing prayers. 2.) Date Received: June 12, 2008 From Paul Kieffer, regional pastor, German speaking areas: Recently Martin Fekete, an elder, has had chest pains after walking short distances. Wednesday, June 11, he had a stress ECG, and it was determined that he had a heart attack some months ago in the anterior heart wall. Some coronary blood vessels are blocked as well. On Tuesday, June 17, Martin will receive two stints to alleviate this situation. If all goes well, he will be home in three days. If the doctors determine more blockage, an operation will be necessary. 3.) From Gene Bremer’s journal on CaringBridge.com FRIDAY, JUNE 13, 2008 05:50 AM, CDT Dad's doctor called on Wed evening to tell them to come to the hospital ASAP. I, Corina, was pulling in from my trip from Ohio as they were pulling out. Dad's calcuim level was extremely high (14.6) which has in turn lowered his kidney function and caused some other issues. They were able to slowly lower his calcuim level at one point to 12.5 (10 is normal) and should hopefully been down even more. He was also low on blood so he got one unit yesterday. He, as always, was initially moderately uncomfortable (for him) however yesterday afternoon he took a huge turn for the worse. His confused state heightened as well as his pain. It took 4 hours to get his pain even close to manageable and finally he fell asleep. Theressa is coming soon and Garrett will be here tomorrow night. It was incredibly difficult to see him yesterday in so much pain. He wants to go home and we hope to get to a place to be able to bring him home. I will try to update soon. Thanks to everyone that has and is amazing to Dad and Dianne. The Chandler crew (Tina, Barry, Johnny, Bridget & kids, Shebly, Jeremy), Sheri Butler, Johnny & Charlie Bremer that have had to spontaneously babysit my kids and have been helping with Dad for over a month. Love to all. As always, we ask that you please keep Dianne and of course Dad in your prayers. He needs peace and rest. Dianne needs strength and comfort. SATURDAY, JUNE 14, 2008 07:28 PM, CDT Thanks to everyone for their prayers and support. When we arrived back at the hospital last night, Dad was considerably better. His calcium is at 9.5 which was great. He had the balloon/cement surgery procedure today to help with compressed discs. We are hoping this is the cause of some of the severe pain. Theressa is here as well as Garrett's whole family. Since Dad looked so much better last night, we took all the kids (9 total) to see Dad. There were lots of tears but we felt like he was stable enough for them to see him. We believe that he will come home Sunday. We will have hospice assistance beginning then. Our appreciation and love to all. Corina MONDAY, JUNE 16, 2008 05:09 PM, CDT Dad is coming home this afternoon/evening. Theressa and Dianne are now waiting on the ambulance to transfer him to the house. We have had the most amazing hospital experience. Every nurse was incredible...and we had several. We were introduced to the hospice program today and will officially be admitted tomorrow. Dad is not happy about the hospice label however we need the medical guidance considering he's weakened condition. We will also receive medical supplies and medicines. They have already delivered a hospital bed to the house. For the good news, his calcium is down to, I believe, 7, his blood is up to 33 and kidney function is normal. Garrett's family is leaving tomorrow and Theressa will be flying back on Wed. I will be here for two more weeks. Thanks for checking up on us. I hope this message finds everyone happy and healthy. Personally, I have a lot to be thankful for and I'm continually reminded how much our whole family has been abundantly blessed. Love, Corina June 7,2008 1.) Date Received: June 6 , 2008 From Roger West, pastor, Bentonville/Fort Smith/Mena, AR.: Robert Hedge, an elder in the Mena, Arkansas, congregation, is back in the hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas. Two years ago, he had surgery for colon cancer. The surgeon removed 18 inches of his colon at that time. Robert also had a blocked right kidney that was not draining. A tube was inserted into the right kidney to have it drain. Chemo treatments were also given. Doctors now have found two tumors that are blocking his bile ducts, plus his liver and stomach were swelling. Tubes were inserted into the right and left sides of his liver for drainage. This required two separate surgeries to get it right. After being released from the hospital, Robert was running fevers and able to eat very little. After being readmitted into the hospital, the doctors found Robert has a staff infection and urinary tract infection. They are continuing to work on his liver draining. He will remain in the hospital anywhere from three days to three weeks, depending on how he responds to treatment. Robert and his wife, Deborah, would appreciate your continued prayers. 2.) Jeanene Marty’s back surgery on Wednesday went well. She is home now but won’t be allowed to do anything for at least a month. Bone spurs were removed and two or three vertebra were fused. Her mother and her daughter are with her to help out. Please pray for her complete recovery. 3.) Jimmy and Irene Gibson are having a very rough time. Irene’s ulcers are causing trouble and she still has heart pain. Jimmy’s Parkinson’s disease has been more active lately and that is very debilitating. They will be re-evaluated by home healthcare on Monday to determine is they are still eligible. Please pray about that because they just can’t get along without it. 4.) Elaine Hatchett is still having a lot of pain due to her recent knee surgery. Continue to pray for her. 5.) Dan Verble has been home from the hospital for several days but is still very weak. Dan is ninety-two years old and Helen is eighty-two. They need our prayers. 6.) Preston Fritts requests prayer for his older brother Arthur Fritts who is very anemic. Also for his brother-in-law Bill Aytes who has liver cancer. May 31,2008 1.) Update Received: May 30, 2008 From Roger West, pastor, Bentonville/Fort Smith/Mena, AR: Vera Worrell has been very encouraged by God’s intervention with her situation. Since February, the multi myeloma cells have dropped from 1.9 (where they had been for a long time) to 1.6 without treatment. She is off most of the medications she was taking, and her blood pressure is staying normal without that specific medication as well. She is very thankful to the members for all their prayers and does request that they continue. 2.) Update Received: May 27, 2008 From Frank McCrady, pastor, Dayton/Cincinnati North, OH: Jeannie Dawson was overwhelmed with the kindness and compassion through all the prayers, calls and cards received; not only from our local congregations, but around the whole United States and beyond. It has been a great inspiration to her and their family to see so many friends that they have known through their years in God’s church. She and her family thanks everyone so very much for caring. 3.) Update Received: May 23, 2008 From Roy Demarest, pastor, Orlando/Jacksonville, FL: David and Lynn Sandland (my sister) told me that they have been overwhelmed and astounded by the concern of the brethren around the world regarding David’s serious health problems. David underwent surgery to remove the malignant prostate in February. His doctor has given him 6 months to 2 years survival chances, as the cancer has metastases to 6 areas of his bone. In spite of this, David has been able to continue serving by giving sermons in remote areas of Australia. To the many churches and individuals who have sent cards, please know that your love, warmth and sincere prayers have touched their hearts. My sister wrote, "all of the brethren are beautiful. It will be a difficult road ahead, but this physical life is just that....our spiritual lives are what matters. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your care, prayers and concern. We love you and pray that God directs your lives and blesses you." 4.) Date Received: May 23, 2008 From Lyle Welty, pastor, Cincinnati East, OH: Roy and Barb Fouch request your prayers for Roy’s mom, Frances Campbell. She has been diagnosed with lung cancer. She has a very large tumor in her lung, which is restricting her breathing. The family asks that you pray for her healing as well as guidance with their treatment decisions. Thank you in advance for your prayers. 5.) From Gene Bremer’s journal on caringbridge.com: Hello everyone. We haven't updated Dad's journal because his condition hasn't changed much. He is able to walk around a bit however his breathing is still labored which has caused some strong anxiety for him. He likes it when people call but is not able to talk very long at all. He has extremely low energy. Garrett is with him this weekend and will return for Father's Day weekend. I, Corina, will be going after the kids get out of school and will update the journal with more at that time. Hopefully, I will have more positive news to share then. Love to all. Corina 6.) Dan Verble is still in the Union County hospital in Anna, IL. 7.) Continue to remember Jimmy and Irene Gibson in prayer. Irene still isn’t able to bring Jimmy to services. 8.) Elaine Hatchett had surgery on one of her knees recently and is experiencing a lot of pain. We need to pray for Elaine’s quick recovery. 9.) From Gerry Russell: We would like you to ask for prayers for Linda’s niece, Tracey Gorman in Jacksonville FL who is being treated for Cancer. They have done chemo and now giving her blood transfusions to counter the effects of the chemo. I would also appreciate your prayers as I am experiencing great pain due to stabbing pains in my neck (Ok I know some think I’m a pain in the neck!!) I have a appointment with a specialist on Monday. May 24,2008 1.) From Fred Kellers, pastor, Bowling Green, KY; Nashville, TN: Kevin Kenady, age 46, has been severely burned on 15 to 20 percent of his body. He was trying to burn some brush in his yard and apparently made the mistake of tossing some gasoline on the fire to speed up the fire. It exploded and burned the palm of his left hand, his right chest and his neck with burns that appear to be second degree. There may be some third degree burns but doctors have not had the chance to completely examine him. I'm relieved to be able to say that the burns on his face appear to only be first degree. His face just appears to be reddish and badly swollen. He is in the intensive care burn unit at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. They have him sedated enough that he remains unconscious and out of pain. Kevin and his wife, Rachel, are very serving persons who attend with us in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and are the parents of a teenager and a toddler. Their home is only about an hour drive, or less, from Nashville and so Rachel will be able to commute, most of the time, from their home in Kentucky. 2.) From David Treybig, pastor, St. Petersburg/Tampa, FL: Suzanne Kieler died at 12:10 p.m. on Saturday the 10th of May. She truly entered her Sabbath rest. Her death was unexpected so soon and she died very peacefully. A memorial service for her was held on Tuesday, May 13. Her husband, Steven, thanks all who sent kind words and cards both during Susie’s illness and following her death. 3.) From Rex Sexton, pastor, Tacoma/Olympia, OR: Shane Franke has returned home to Soldotna, Alaska, but is still in need of our prayers. According to his wife, Kim, the mastoid bone infection appears to be improved somewhat, but he has developed viral pneumonia as a result of his stay in the hospital and being in a prone position for an extended time. The doctors have been unable to identify which "superbug bacteria" he is dealing with. Shane is still in pain and has been coughing up blood. Your prayers are appreciated. May 17,2008 1.) Irene Gibson suffered a heart attack at home about 10:30 PM. last night. An ambulance was called and she was taken to Lourdes hospital where she is now. A niece is seeing about Jimmy for the present but this is a really bad situation for them because Jimmy depends so much on her caring for him. He requests your prayers for her healing and for their situation in general. 2.) From Roger West, pastor, Fort Smith/Mena/Bentonville, AR: Bob Hedge, an elder, went to the hospital in Little Rock on Sunday. He is very jaundiced due to the cancer shutting the bile ducts in his liver. The tube that was previously inserted into his kidney for drainage was changed and the doctors wanted to insert two tubes into his liver. The tubes would come out between his ribs. This procedure would be very hard to live with and once it is done, it cannot be reversed. Bob asked for a few days at home. He was released from the hospital this afternoon and is now at home. Please ask God for His intervention in Bob’s overall healing and specifically that his liver will begin functioning properly. 3.) From Jon Garnant, elder, Los Angeles , CA : The Vierra family would like to thank the many, many friends for all of their thoughts and prayers for elder, Herb Vierra. He was admitted Tuesday to Arcadia Methodist Hospital, suffering from a heart attack. X-rays showed that he had several blocked arteries and the surgeons would like to monitor his progress before they operate on him today (Thursday). We believe that God is working to heal his body swiftly and sincerely and appreciate your continued prayers on his behalf. The family is asking that visits and calls be postponed for the time being. We will keep you posted with updates on his condition. Thank you again for all of your prayers. 4.) Date Received: May 16, 2008 From Fred Kellers, pastor, Bowling Green, KY; Nashville, TN: Kevin Kenady, age 46, has been severely burned on 15 to 20 percent of his body. 5.) Update Received: May 16, 2008 From David Treybig, pastor, St. May 10,2008 1.) From Rex Sexton, pastor, Tacoma/Olympia, OR: Shane Franke, 50, of the Soldotna, Alaska, congregation, is in critical condition in the Soldotna hospital as a result of a "super bug" infection that has migrated from his ear into his mastoid bone. As of yesterday morning the mastoid is highly inflamed where it is adjacent to the brain stem and brain cavity. If the infection spreads the doctors say it will be fatal. Shane is currently being given high doses of morphine due to the excruciating pain as the doctors are hoping to stabilize him for a medivac flight to Virginia Mason hospital in Seattle. Shane and his wife, Kim, have four children and one grandchild. Shane is also the oldest son of Chuck and Arlene Franke, an elder in Soldotna. Please pray for God’s intervention and healing. Every minute now is critical. 2.) Update Received: May 9, 2008 From Dennis Luker, pastor, Seattle, WA; Alaska: Shane Franke was operated on Wednesday afternoon at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle. Kim, his wife, who is with him, was told by the doctors that the surgery on his right ear went well. They were able to clean out the infection deep in the ear, and the brain stem was not infected. They are running some tests to check for causes of the chronic and very serious infection he had and he will be in the hospital for the rest of this week, if not longer. He is experiencing quite a bit of pain so please continue to remember him in your prayers. He, his wife and children deeply appreciate your love, prayers and concern. 3.) Update Received: May 9, 2008 From Ken DeVilbiss, elder, Dayton, OH: Jean Dawson, a deacon in the Dayton, Ohio, congregation, died early Friday morning, May 9th. Jean’s health continued to deteriorate over the last several weeks as the result of cancer in his lungs and throat. God was merciful in that Jean didn’t have a lot of pain. He was a true servant of God as he was always concerned and asking about others and he will be missed by all who knew him. Funeral arrangements are pending. Please pray for God’s comfort for his wife, Jeanie, and the family. May 3, 2008 1.) From Lyle Welty, pastor, Cincinnati East, OH: Your prayers are requested for Carole Gholson. She has been receiving chemotherapy for months now, and recently she developed pain in her abdomen. She assumed that it was a reaction to her chemo, but when the generalized abdominal pain became more specific, she realized it was her appendix. She went to the hospital, and as the doctor was removing her appendix he discovered it had been leaking for some time. Carole is in the hospital at present, and is still swollen and in considerable pain due to the infection. Your prayers would be greatly appreciated for her healing and recovery. 2.) Roberta Green requests prayer for her brother Victor Smith, who is suffering strokes and seizures. 3.) Gene Bremer is at home now but still suffering greatly from pain. It is wearing on him to the point that depression is setting in. Please continue to pray for him and his family. April 26, 2008 1.) From David Treybig, pastor, St. Petersburg/Tampa, FL: A few weeks ago, air movement in Suzanne Kieler’s left lung was barely noticeable. Last Thursday (April 17) the Hospice nurses came, and air is now moving in all regions but the lower one. The most recent x-ray showed a somewhat smaller tumor. Suzanne is getting up and around entirely on her own now, and there has been no falling. Dehydration, energy/enthusiasm and concentration are issues still being dealt with. Suzanne and her husband, Steven, have been very encouraged by all the calls and e-mails received. Thank you all for the continued care and prayer. 2.) From Chris Moen, pastor, Mansfield/Canton, OH: Phyllis Sprang, 72, of the Mansfield, Ohio, congregation, died Sunday morning, April 20th. Phyllis had been struggling for three months with a severe lung infection. Amidst many prayers for her healing, now it’s clear that God has something much better for her as she awakes in the resurrection. She died in deep faith, and left us and her family an example of her faith in God. Thank you for your prayers on her behalf. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Howard, four children and eleven grandchildren. They will need our prayers of comfort now. 3.) From Harold Rhodes, pastor, Pensacola, FL; Mobile/Geneva, AL: Mr. James Evans, a member of the Geneva, Alabama, congregation, died Wednesday, April 16 after a long battle with cancer. God intervened for him several times in the past. James was very much looking forward to the Kingdom of God. He and his example of faith will be greatly missed. 4.) Richard Shepherd of Hopkinsville, KY had gall bladder surgery on Thursday the twenty-fourth. He also has some inflamation of his pancreas. Friday he was chomping at the bits to get out of the hospital so that he could go to services at Bowling Green today. The pancreas thing might be more of a problem than the gall bladder so keep him in your prayers. 5.) Ed Crook is scheduled for knee surgery on Monday at ten AM. Please pray for the success of this procedure for Ed. 6.) Ron Yex requests prayer for his daughter, Kathy Grey. She is eight and one half months pregnant and fell last evening and broke her right arm. Pray that her arm heals quickly and completely and that the baby suffers no harm from her fall. 7.) For those who know Mr. Jim Barnes, who is in the nursing home in Birch Tree, MO, he seems to be a little better. He has come from the verge of death to the point where he is eating some and talking a little. We can’t be sure but it could be because they took him off some of the medication he had been taking. |
